Julie Chevalier, Executive Director of the Elmira Heights Urban Renewal Agency, announced that the Village of Elmira Heights has been awarded an $875,000 grant through Empire State Development’s Restore NY funding. The Elmira Heights Urban Renewal Agency (EHURA) will administer the program.

Funding will be utilized to fully renovate the former Pierce’s Building in Elmira Heights, owned by Mike and Shana Graham. Renovations will include:

  • addition of three market-rate apartments on the second floor

  • installation of an elevator

  • commercial renovations for the second floor

  • complete renovations for the first floor and the entire façade.

“This building, located at 228 Oakwood Avenue in Elmira Heights, is an integral and anchoring building located in the village’s Business District,” said Julie Chevalier, Executive Director of EHURA. “Renovations to this building will set the tone for the intentions of village officials to further enhance their support of the business district and the local business owners." Margaret Smith, Mayor of Elmira Heights, further stated, “by developing viable communities, we are able to expand other economic opportunities, as well.”
